The Toyota Gaming Engine [TTGE] has been collaborating with the African Cyber Gaming League [ACGL] and Kasi Gamerz since September 2022 to bring extended FIFA tournament opportunities to communities around the Western Cape. Over the months, the program has shown promising results, with some of the players discovered by the program now making their mark in the competitive gaming scene.

One such player is Dale, a multi-event winner who has secured himself a place in the playoffs of the SAFA eCup, which will determine the new national team for 2023. The playoffs are scheduled for March 25th, and Dale has moved through the ranks over the last few months to earn his spot.

Meanwhile, a group of young up-and-coming players is beginning their run in the FIFA 23 competitive scene. Around 40 of these hopefuls participated in a community tournament hosted on March 11th in Strand. The mix of younger and older players represented both new faces and a number of established names in the local scene.

At the event, some of the established players found the going tough, with Athi and Reatile falling out in the third round. This opened the door for newer players to move in and claim the winner’s crown. Lagco and Benathi were the two players to take the opportunity and go through to a final-round face-off.

It was Benathi who stood tallest on the day, taking the final 3-1. In doing so, he only conceded two goals while scoring 15 in his five matches over the day. This victory is a testament to the potential of the community tournament collaboration program, which offers players the opportunity to compete more regularly and improve against each opponent.

Looking ahead, the program has several upcoming events in store for April. On the 1st of April, a community tournament is scheduled to take place in Strand.

Additionally, two local schools will go head-to-head in an inter-schools competition on the 15th of April. The top eight players from Christmas Tinto and Solomon Qatanya schools will compete for prizes and well-deserved bragging rights.

The collaboration between TTGE, ACGL, and Kasi Gamerz has been a catalyst for a healthier esports ecosystem in South Africa, offering players new opportunities to showcase their skills and compete at a higher level. The program's success highlights the potential of community tournament collaborations in the esports industry, and TTGE is committed to continuing to provide these opportunities to aspiring players in the Western Cape and beyond.
