TTGE, ACGL & KASI GAMERZ FIND ESPORTS TALENTS THROUGH COMMUNITY GAMING INITIATIVE
Since September, The Toyota Gaming Engine [TTGE], African Cyber Gaming League [ACGL], and the Kasi Gamerz crew have been working together to bring more competitive opportunities to communities in the Western Cape.
Heritage Day saw the launch of FIFA 22 tournaments in Strand. This was followed by October’s event which saw an increase in player entries from a wider range of local townships.
29 October saw another FIFA 22 showdown, this time at Trenchtown in Observatory. The event drew the top 16 from the previous Strand events together alongside 16 registered and invited players, all competing for their share of R1,000 cash.
At first, the registered players appeared to dominate the tournament as Ridhaa from ATK Esports dispatched two of his opponents with ease.
Dale – a walk-in on the day – was also making waves with two big wins that turned a few heads. Ultimately Ridhaa and Dale met in the third round of the competition, which saw Dale emerge victorious and continue in the winners’ bracket.
Two of the players drawn from the Strand events were also quietly making moves in the winners’ bracket. Athi and Mzura eventually met in the winners’ bracket final, producing a thrilling match that ended 3-2 in Athi’s favour; sending him to the Grand Final.
Athi was met in the grand final by Dale who had a short run in the losers’ bracket to get back into the top two. In a very tight match that went almost to the last moments of extra time, Athi took the win and the Grand Prize of R500 cash. Mzura placed 3rd on the day, rounding off a good day for the Kasi Gamerz’ representatives.
The purpose of this event was to gauge the skill gap and track the improvements being experienced by the players from Strand. They can expect to be tested again at upcoming FIFA tournaments. The Trenchtown competition showed that the Kasi Gamerz crew is uncovering talent in their surrounding communities, ensuring a widening ecosystem expansion.
A special shoutout should go to the players, for their enthusiasm throughout the events so far. A big thank you also goes to Trenchtown who supplied the players with pizzas and cool drinks on the day.
