TTGE, ACGL, and Kasi Gamerz have been working together since September 2022 to provide extended FIFA tournament opportunities to communities around the Western Cape. The collaboration has given rise to a number of talented players who have demonstrated their mettle in both community and more competitive tournaments.

 

Two standout players are Athi and Dale, both frequent top-four finishers at events, with both earning a top spot at least once. Dale recently came out on top in a Trenchtown tournament against Athi, but Athi holds the belt for the most first-place finishes of the two players.

Athi and Dale have now extended their run in the live environment to the online space. During the qualifiers for the Virtual Chief Challenge, both players secured their spots in the playoffs of the R15,000 FIFA 23 tournament. Standing in their way are a number of top players – some familiar to the two, others less so.

 

On their current form, both players have a chance to push into the top three, where the prize money awaits. However, their rivalry may prevent both players from earning a top-three place, as they could end up meeting each other in the early rounds, and there can only be one winner.

 

 

The opportunities presented by community tournament collaboration have offered both players the chance to compete more regularly and improve against each opponent. Keeping these systems in place will be the catalyst to ensuring a healthy esports ecosystem for South Africa in the coming years.
