Opportunities for more up-and-coming players to access gaming and esports in South Africa continued to grow in March, thanks to The Toyota Gaming Engine (TTGE), African Cyber Gaming League (ACGL), and NoFocus Gaming.

A variety of events were hosted in the Western Cape and Gauteng, bringing together over 100 players who competed for prizes, future opportunities, and—of course—bragging rights over schoolmates and best friends.

WESTERN CAPE

One of the month’s stops saw the ACGL team visit CURRO Hermanus, which hosted a number of schools from the region. Players from various backgrounds competed in an EA FC 25 tournament, showcasing just how diverse and talented the local gaming scene is becoming.

While CURRO Hermanus players dominated the top spots in the double-elimination tournament, Qhayiya Secondary School made a statement with two players placing in the top eight. Despite limited access to equipment and events, Khanya secured 6th place and Luthando claimed 7th—highlighting just how much untapped talent exists across the country.

Later in the month, Parkfields Primary School—a returning participant—visited the ACGL Bunker. Thanks to the exposure gained through the program, the school is now actively working to expand gaming opportunities for its students. With support from ACGL, they’ve begun exploring Minecraft as a stepping stone into local school tournaments.

GAUTENG

In Soweto, NoFocus Gaming hosted two events during the month. Each EA FC 25 tournament offered a R500 cash prize pool, drawing over 80 players in total.

The absence of reigning champion Kat opened the door for new contenders to shine. On 15 March, London claimed victory in a 13-goal thriller against Rea. Just a week later, Sugar edged out Kamza with a narrow 5-4 win. After finishing in the top four the previous week, Sugar proved himself to be one of the most consistent performers of the month.

UPCOMING EVENTS

NoFocus Gaming will host its next EA FC 25 tournament in Gauteng on 19 April, with R1,000 in cash up for grabs.

Comic Con Cape Town kicks off on 1 May, and selected Cape Town players will get the opportunity to attend and compete in a special show series. Details of this and other TTGE activities at Comic Con will be announced soon via TTGE’s social media accounts.

Schools in Cape Town with limited access to equipment can reach out to schools@acgl.gg if they’re interested in taking part. The ACGL team will either host you at the ACGL Bunker or arrange a visit to your school.

This collaborative program is all about bringing gaming and tournament opportunities to players, schools, and communities that may not have had access before.
