In a recent post on Reddit, a fan showcased the four dashboards that the Xbox 360 had during its lifespan. Released in 2005, the Xbox 360 was one of the best-selling consoles of all time, and its rivalry with the PlayStation 3 is one of the strongest in gaming history. The console's lifespan lasted eight years before it was replaced by the Xbox One, which is an unusually long lifespan for a console. The Xbox 360 is now considered "retro," and in the digital era, this has unfortunate connotations, as servers continue to cost money to host.

While Microsoft has taken a strong approach to backward compatibility and game preservation in the past, the company recently delisted over 40 titles from the Xbox 360 marketplace. Though Microsoft denies that the Xbox 360 marketplace is fully shutting down anytime soon, the recent delistings have fans speculating about how much life the Xbox 360 has left in it.

The image is sure to invoke nostalgia for anyone who owned an Xbox 360, showing all four dashboards the console had in its lifetime. The original Blades dashboard remains iconic, with many fans paying homage to it in their own fan-made dashboard concepts. Also seen is the New Xbox Experience dashboard, which was introduced in 2008, as well as the 2011 dashboard designed to make use of Microsoft's Metro panels system. Looking at the newer dashboards, it's clear how some of the design decisions remain in the current dashboard for Xbox Series X/S.

While players have more options for customisation on the new Xbox Series X/S dashboard, the abundance of adverts on the newer iterations makes it a much less pleasant experience for many players. Fans are reminiscing in the comments, with many sharing their favourite dashboard version and memories of games they were playing at the time. Every player will have their own favourite, usually attached to their own memories of games they were playing at the time.

The Xbox 360's influence on the gaming industry is significant, and its legacy can still be seen in modern-day consoles. As we move further into the digital age, it's important to remember the consoles that paved the way and gave us some of our most beloved gaming memories.
