The Toyota Gaming Engine [TTGE] and African Cyber Gaming League [ACGL] have kicked off the return of their partnership aimed at powering up esports in South Africa. The programme aims to bring gaming and tournament opportunities to players, schools and communities with limited access. This year’s iteration continues activities in the Western Cape expanded to Gauteng, thanks to a collaboration with NoFocus Gaming in Soweto. Competitors in both regions play for a place in the grand finale in Cape Town in search of South Africa’s next rising star in EA FC 25.  

EXCITING FACE-OFFS IN THE FAIREST CAPE 

The Western Cape tournaments in February focused on two schools in the region featuring numerous candidates for future high-profile success. 

Bosmansdam Primary School saw a selection of their pupils compete on home turf. Over a single elimination tournament run it was Caden that who took top spot against Hope. 

A week later and the ACGL HQ played host to Parkfields Primary School. A very enthusiastic teacher and pupils competed in EA FC25. 

The finals saw Dante and Raeez compete in a well-supported match, which ended with Dante claiming the victory and bragging rights for some time to come. 

GAMERS GO FOR GOLD IN GAUTENG

NoFocus Gaming in Soweto hosted their first event in this partnership in March ‘25. The tournament attracted 80 players, all ready to claim the top spot and the lion’s share of the cash up for grabs.

The day saw a lot of competitors, with two players in a flawless clean sheet run to the final. The two impressive legends Phatu, came up against Kat, both eager to show their dominance. The final however went to Kat with a 5-0 final score, to ensure the target for future events was now on his back.

 

FUTURE TOURNAMENT ACTION LOADING

Players in the Gauteng area can head to NoFocus Gaming on 15 March 2025 for their next tournament. If you’re in Cape Town, keep your eyes on ACGL’s social media for events, while a number of schools will be visited, or visit ACGL HQ, for their opportunities. Schools in the Western Cape can also contact schools@acgl.gg if they are keen to compete and have access to equipment.
